WP 9. NITRIDE SEMICONDUCTOR CONSULTING CENTRE
Objectives. Create a Consulting Center for Nitride Optoelctronic industry, linked to leading European labs.
Description of the contents, the workplan, the steps, the approach or the methodology

Nitride Semiconductor Consulting Centre is planned to support this new field of technology and to act in two main areas:

i) Consulting for the small high-tech companies on the properties of the nitride-based products,

ii) Consulting for the science managers on the most important topics in nitride research.

In the first area, it is planned to:

  • Perform tests of the nitride devices.
  • Create a database with the tests results, as well as with the specifications from the manufacturers.
  • Create and update an Internet webpage on the nitride semiconductor products.
  • Organise meetings on nitride technology with participation of technical managers of industry.
In the second area, the following actions are planned:
  • Organise nitride library.
  • Create an Internet webepage reviewing the most important information on nitrides.
  • Organise annual workshops on nitrides reviewing the current status of the nitride research and technology.
  • Actively participate in the main nitride-related scientific and commercial events.
The Nitride Semiconductor Consulting Centre is supposed to serve not only Polish industrial and scientific community, but other countries as well. The mutual visits of West European and Unipress experts will be arranged in order to do review the most recent achievements in the field and to develop a knowledge data base, accessible via internet to the cooperation partners.

During the first 3 years of operation, the NSCC is planned to act as a non-profit organisation within the structures of Unipress. During that time, 50% of the operation costs would be financed by the proposed Workpackage. Later, the NSCC will be transformed into a commercial spin-off. The project will be carried out in co-operation with the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences.

The consulting center will be developed and operated in cooperation with Prof. Bernard Baumont (CHREA - CNRS Valbone (France) and the new French high-tech SME EPILOG, producer of nitride optoelectronic devices.

Two foreign PhD students will be jointly supervised with West-European partners and carrying out research projects related to the present workpackage.

The Workpackage is managed by Prof. Michal Leszczynski: mike@unipress.waw.pl
