The weather: Summer in Mazury Region turns out shorter than in other regions of Poland. It is not uncommon that first signs of fall can be noticed already at the end of August. After the 15th of August the day shortens already by 2 hours vis-a-vis the longest day of the year - the 22 of June. Many sailboats are no longer on sail. You can easily see many boats anchored to a buoy or even moved out from the water. The average air temperature in Mazury does not surpass 17 degrees Celsius in August. Thus the weather can often freeze the most devoted tourists. The famous record cold summer was recorded in 1966, when the temperature fall to +0,9 degrees C in August. There are chances however that you could see hot days too as the max air temperatures in August do not diverge from maximal July temperatures. The maximum temperature in Suwałki of +34,8 degrees, for example, was recorded on the 10 of July 1992. These hot days happen less frequently though. The lower temperatures in August are compensated by more sunny days. In addition, August in Mazury is less rainy than July as the average rainfall level in this month ranges from 70 to 80mm. There are thunderstorms too, though less frequently than in July. During nights and early mornings often mist forms what makes many non-inhabited places seem to be enchanted.
