It was a great pleasure for the Institute of High Pressure Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences (IHPP PAS) to welcome, on 25 September 2026, students from the ProbUWka Chemistry Student Science Club, operating within the College of Inter-Faculty Individual Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MiSMAP - Miedzywydziałowe Indywidualne Studia Matematyczno-Przyrodnicze) at the University of Warsaw. The meeting was initiated by Ms Anna Mroczek, Vice-President of the ProbUWka Student Science Club.
The visit began with a lecture presenting an overview of the research activities carried out at our Institute, delivered by Dr. Eng. Mateusz Hajdel. Particular attention was devoted to the journey from the growth of gallium nitride (GaN) crystals to functional optoelectronic devices, including laser diodes and LEDs.
The doors to our laboratories were then opened by several our researchers. Dr. Szymon Grzanka demonstrated laser tuning using an external diffraction grating. Dr. Eng. Mateusz Hajdel and Dr. Eng. Mikołaj Żak introduced the students to our cleanroom facilities and molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). MSc Ewa Grzanka presented X-ray diffraction and its applications to semiconductor materials and structures. Dr. Eng. Artur Lachowski gave a tour of the electron microscopy laboratory, while Dr. Habil. Piotr Kruszewski demonstrated deep-level transient spectroscopy (DLTS).
Thank you for the inspiring meeting, lively discussions and thoughtful questions. We will be delighted to welcome the "ProbUWka" students back to our Institute in the future!
