Open Access Publishing at IHPP PAS

The Institute of High Pressure Physics PAS provides researchers affiliated with IHPP PAS with the opportunity to publish articles under Open Access models as part of national and consortium licensing programs. Article processing charges under these programs are covered by the license fees, meaning authors incur no additional individual costs.

In 2026, IHPP PAS is participating in four open access publishing programs:

  • IOP – unlimited article allocation
  • Elsevier – nationwide allocation limited to 1,084 articles per year
  • ACS – nationwide allocation limited to 468 articles per year
  • Springer – nationwide allocation limited to 1,381 articles

More detailed information, including lists of journal titles, manuscript submission procedures, and current allocation usage nationwide, is available on the Virtual Library of Science website (Wirtualna Biblioteka Nauki) *information is in Polish.

Publishing Research Data in the Open Data Repository – RepOD

We encourage authors affiliated with IHPP PAS to deposit and share their research data in the RepOD repository – specifically within our Institute's institutional collection. The RepOD repository meets all NCN (National Science Centre) criteria and standards and serves as a proven tool for promoting and disseminating scientific achievements.

The Research Open Data Repository (RepOD) is the first Polish open research data repository, created for all researchers and institutions interested in sharing their resources. It has been operating since 2015 and is maintained by the Open Science Platform team at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling, University of Warsaw.

Every dataset deposited in the repository is assigned a DOI number. Using the repository incurs no fees for the end user.

NCN Open Access Policy

On June 25, 2025, the National Science Centre (NCN) announced a change to its Open Access policy. Under the new rules, reporting may now also include articles published via the traditional - so-called "closed" - model. Additionally, the NCN has agreed to fund publications in hybrid journals, which was previously non-permissible. The rules governing the application of Open Access routes remain unchanged - if an author decides to present a publication as Open Access, it must meet the requirements of the corresponding route.

Rules regarding Open Access to research data remain unchanged.

The NCN continues to support the idea of Open Science, particularly the use of the "Green Open Access" route - depositing a manuscript version in recognized thematic or institutional repositories, in compliance with the publisher's policy and applicable regulations.

"Predatory" Publishers and Conference Organizers

In light of the increasing prevalence of dishonest publishing practices, we kindly ask all the IHPP scientists to implement extreme caution when selecting journals, publishers, and scientific conferences to present your research findings.

So-called "predatory publishers" and pseudo-conference organizers are driven solely by profit, offering rapid publication for a fee - without rigorous peer review or editorial oversight. Publishing in such venues can expose both the author and the Institute to financial and reputational damage. Furthermore, these articles are not considered in scientific evaluation processes and can negatively impact your academic record in promotion proceedings.

Warning signs to watch out for:

  • Persistent, mass email solicitations (often overly flattering and personalized) to publish or deliver a talk
  • Promises of extremely fast publication (e.g., within a few days) and the lack of a genuine peer-review process
  • Unclear or hidden publication/conference fees
  • Journal titles or conference names strikingly similar to well-established, reputable ones
  • False or inflated metrics (e.g., fabricated "impact factors"), fake editorial boards, or a lack of verifiable publisher contact details
  • Conferences with excessively broad, "catch-all" thematic scopes hosted in attractive tourist destinations

Before submitting a manuscript or registration, please:

  • Verify whether the journal is included in the current Ministry list and indexed in recognized databases (Scopus, Web of Science, DOAJ)
  • Verify the publisher and conference (e.g., using the Think.Check.Submit / Think.Check.Attend tools)
  • Consult with your laboratory head or the Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs in case of any doubts

Thank you for your resonable approach and commitment to upholding the quality and reputation of our Institute.
