| The goal of this project is to fabricate a single chip, two-dimensional semiconductor laser diode array using the nitride semiconductor material system. The emitters will have a horizontal cavity and the light will be out-coupled by a system of monolithically integrated mirrors, deflecting the light perpendicularly to the surface. The successful project accomplishment will lead to the fabrication of novel nitride light emitting devices – 2D laser diode/superluminescent diode array. The advantages of the proposed approach include: square or circular-like manifold of light beams, good heat spreading of thick GaN substrate leading to multi-ten Watts optical power, simplicity of device mounting, and easy-to-achieve operation in addressable configuration. The proposed array may become a breakthrough solutions for video projectors and white laser light lights like new generation of smart car headlamps. |
