Laboratory NL-10

Research topics

Laboratory of Ceramics and Glass, also known as X-PressMatter Lab for Pressurised Ceramics., Glasses, of Matter & Foods, operating within the Institute of High Pressure Physics PAS at the Innovation Park in Celestynów, conducts research on the transformation of amorphous materials — glasses, ceramics, and soft matter — under pressure ranging from negative pressures to very high values on the order of gigapascals (GPa). An important aspect of the research is the feedback loop between experimental results and the predictions of proposed theoretical models.

Structural modification of materials near the glass transition temperature enables the development of glasses with exceptional hardness, crack resistance, and the ability to “self-heal” microcracks. The laboratory also develops innovative “glassy” and nanocomposite materials for applications in sodium batteries, fuel cells, and hydrogen technologies. In parallel, high-pressure processing (HPP+) technologies are being advanced to enhance the durability and health-promoting properties of foods and pharmaceuticals without compromising their biological value.
